Every three months, ISAAC organises a descarga (jam session) for students at the school and Latin musicians in general. We also run regular workshops and master classes for people who want to discover Latin music, learn a new style or a new instrument or expand their knowledge of Afro-Caribbean cultures.

ISAAC jam sessions

Every three months, ISAAC organises a descarga (jam session) for students at the school and Latin musicians in general. They start with performances by the school's orchestras, presenting the work they have done over previous months. Then the stage is opened up to all musicians who wish to participate.

These jam sessions are designed to encourage musicians to experiment. The aim is not for you to play a piece "exactly like it is on the record" but to find your place in more open musical structures. The descargas are also a good way for performers of Latin music to meet.

Workshops

ISAAC organises workshops throughout the year, for musicians of all levels, from beginners to proficient performers. These workshops are an opportunity for you to discover an instrument, a new style of music or a particular way of playing, and to widen your knowledge of Afro-Caribbean culture.

The workshops are on Sundays, from 2pm to 6pm. We draw up the programme at the start of the school year but add to it to cater for demand and the availability of professional musicians in Paris. We are open to suggestions from the public and from musicians for new workshops.

Residences and master classes

When professional artists or groups come to France, we organise workshops with them for experienced musicians. These residences run for several consecutive days and may lead to live performances or recordings.
