With Alvaro Lopez

Beginners, non-percussionists, dancers, music lovers

ImageThis course is an introduction to the main rhythms used in Latin music. It teaches students the rudiments of playing congas, bongos, the cowbell and small percussion instruments like the guiro and clave.

Goals: You will learn how to play the key conga and bongo rhythms (the marcha and martillo, respectively) and how to accompany them on the cowbell.

The aim of this course is to equip you with the basic techniques for the main Latin percussion instruments and teach you how to play them in time with the clave.

It is also an introduction to the vocabulary used to describe the structure of salsa tunes (montuno, mambo, pregon, tumbao, etc.), for which we will use both audio and video clips.

Duration: 30 one-hour sessions

Equipment: Lessons are held in an equipped rehearsal studio. Students are recommended to record the lessons.
